Autodesk University 2015 – Here We Come!

Hey everyone!

Yes, I know I still haven’t finished my Content Center series… sigh… I haven’t forgotten, I promise!

I’ve been pretty busy with bill paying work, and getting ready for Autodesk University.   This annual gathering of nearly 10,000 users, resellers, designers, engineers, teachers etc. is once again being held in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Registration is still open, but classes are filling up fast.  The conference begins on December 1 and runs thru December 3.  This year’s event is at the Venetian Hotel & Casino, in the Sands conference center.

The conference is always a lot of fun.  If you come, and you’ve never been before, I strongly recommend getting there on Monday, November 30th to attend the Freshman Orientation, which is from 5pm – 6:30.  This great session gives you tips on surviving at AU, and getting the most from all that the conference has to offer.  The rest of the week is filled with classes, technology forums, networking opportunites (these are the main reason I go) and great keynote presentations.  The exhibit hall is filled with vendors showing off their latest gadgets for just about any industry you can imagine.  Make sure you stop at booth #747A, this is the home for the Autodesk Community.  Yours truly might even be hanging out there in the evenings, sipping on a nice cold (free) beer.

Speaking of the Community, I’m headlining a panel discussion this year called The Power of the Autodesk Community. There are still plenty of seats left for this informative session, which features a group of my fellow Expert Elites, and representatives from Autodesk… including the mysterious Discussion_Admin seen lurking in the discussion forums.  We will be giving tips on how to get the most benefit from this great free service, and how to find help with Autodesk products on social media and blogs… like this one.  The session is Thursday morning, December 3 from 8 am – 9:30.

Wednesday morning, December 2 at the same time, I am participating in an Autodesk Vault discussion panel called Behind the Music – Stories From Vault users.  In this fun (I hope) session, you will hear stories from a small, medium and large company, about their adventures with Autodesk Vault products.  I am there to represent the small company.  The session is being hosted by my freind Mike Thomas who is a regular contributor on the Design & Motion website.

I’m sharing just a few images from last year’s conference, just as a taste of what you might experience if you attend.  The learning is real, the freindships you make can last a long time, and if you bring back one useful tip that can be implemented at your work…. you’ve had a successful trip.  I hope to see some of you there!

  1. Hey Chris,

Will definitely be there, my presentation is Tuesday morning (gulp!). Any advice for a first time speaker?

    Hope to meet you there.

Hmmm,.. last year was my first. I was a nervous wreck until it was over. One tip I would give you is set up your presentation in such a way that you are not relying on internet,… have a backup plan in case the wifi goes out. Live demos can also be a problem, no matter how well you rehearse…. something always seems to go wrong, so I’d have videos of any demos ready to go just in case. Get to your room 1/2 hour before your class and get tech support to help you get everything set up. Those guys are great. Lots of business cards! Other than that just go with it and have fun! Hope to see you there… hit me up on Twitter if you are looking for me. Thanks for reading!
